From Humble Beginnings

Canadian Food House opened its doors in 2008 with a simple mission: to celebrate the incredible diversity and quality of Canadian ingredients through dishes that honor both tradition and innovation.

What started as a small bistro with just twelve tables has grown into one of Toronto's most beloved dining destinations. Yet despite our growth, we remain committed to the values that defined us from day one: sourcing locally, cooking with integrity, and treating every guest like family.

Our founder, Chef Laurent Dubois, spent years traveling across Canada before settling in Toronto. From the oyster farms of Prince Edward Island to the cattle ranches of Alberta, from the maple groves of Quebec to the fishing villages of British Columbia, each journey shaped his understanding of what Canadian cuisine could become.

What Guides Us

Local Sourcing

Over 85% of our ingredients come from farms and producers within 200 kilometers of our kitchen. We know our suppliers by name and visit their operations regularly.

Seasonal Menus

Our menu changes with the seasons, ensuring that every dish showcases ingredients at their peak freshness and flavor. What nature provides, we serve.

Sustainable Practices

From composting food waste to using renewable energy, we strive to minimize our environmental footprint while maximizing the quality of our offerings.

Our Culinary Team

Behind every memorable meal stands a team of passionate professionals. Our kitchen brigade combines classical training with creative spirit, while our front-of-house staff brings warmth and knowledge to every interaction.

Chef Laurent leads a team of eight cooks, each specializing in different aspects of our menu. Sous Chef Marie-Claire oversees our pastry program, while Chef de Partie James manages our celebrated seafood preparations.

The Space

Our dining room was designed to feel like an extension of the Canadian landscape. Reclaimed barn wood from a century-old Ontario farmhouse forms our bar top, while hand-forged ironwork from a Quebec artisan frames our open kitchen.

Large windows allow natural light to flood the space during lunch service, while candlelight and warm pendant lamps create an intimate atmosphere for evening dining. Every design choice reflects our commitment to Canadian craftsmanship and sustainability.
